Apple appears to be preparing a major shift for its MacBook Pro lineup, according to a recent Bloomberg report. While near-term updates are expected with refreshed chipsets, a more significant redesign may be closer than previously anticipated. The spotlight is now on a rumoured OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro that could introduce iPhone-style features to Apple’s flagship laptop.
OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro with Dynamic Island
Bloomberg reports that Apple is working on a MacBook Pro model featuring an OLED touchscreen, possibly arriving toward the end of 2026. If accurate, this would mark the first Mac laptop with an OLED display and built-in touch support. The report suggests that Apple may replace the current notch with a Dynamic Island interface, similar to what debuted on the iPhone 14 Pro series.
On the MacBook Pro, the Dynamic Island is expected to house the webcam while also serving as an interactive software element. It may expand and adapt depending on the application in use, showing media controls, live activities and other contextual information. Third-party app integration is also said to be under consideration, bringing a more dynamic interface to macOS.
Alongside the hardware changes, Apple is reportedly refining macOS to better support touch input. Users may be able to tap or click on on-screen elements interchangeably, with menus and controls adjusting based on the method of interaction. Features similar to iPad gestures, such as pinch-to-zoom and faster scrolling, could be introduced across the system. However, the MacBook Pro is not expected to be marketed as a touch-first device, and the traditional keyboard and trackpad will remain central to the experience.
The OLED MacBook Pro models are said to retain the familiar 14-inch and 16-inch sizes while adopting a thinner and lighter chassis. Apple is expected to refresh the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips through the March 4 launch event. The OLED variants launching later in the year could move to M6 Pro and M6 Max processors built on a new manufacturing process, marking a substantial generational upgrade.
